What I’m Working On
I’m sure you all felt the shock-waves ripple through the conlinguistic aether when my site for linguistics went back up:
Right now there’s nothing there but the standard template and a few stubs. I’ll be uploading my old articles in a little while, when I’m able to pull them off of my currently non-functioning Linux partition. Probably this weekend.
And I’m trying a new content-management system. The last site ran on PostNuke, which at first looked good but I eventually learned to despise. The biggest problem was with PostNuke’s templating system, which was awful, obtuse, difficult, backwards, and impossible. That’s why I never got up any satisfactory design for the site. The other problem was no satisfactory modules for handling large amounts of static, seldom-updated data, which is what most of my site is. PostNuke is baaaad.
Now I’m running Mambo, which *appears* to be much better. If nothing else, it allows me to edit templates and stylesheets from within the standard administrative menu, which is an enormous help.
