Body
The Salt Lake City School District, in partnership with NJRA Architect and Big-D Construction, completed construction on a new administrative building aimed at enhancing employee comfort and prioritizing operational efficiency. The 60,000 square foot facility will bring together district departments, which manage 43 schools and over 20,000 students, into a single facility.
A critical aim of the project was to provide employees with ample daylight and access to the outdoors, despite the urban setting and small lot. Project architects responded to these requirements through a creative approach to space management and biophilic design.
- Two plazas situated atop the 2-story parking structure provide employees with outdoor respite to reenergize throughout the day.
- Smart windows (electrochromic glass) were installed throughout the façade to provide unlimited access to daylight and views.
- The smart windows also enhance the energy efficiency of the administrative building by preventing excess heat gain and reducing the use of HVAC for space cooling
